Career Day at Challenger Middle School

Last Friday, I had the incredible opportunity of speaking to the middle schoolers of Challenger Middle School. I went up with my mother, Litza Menendez of E-motions Video and did a joint presentation on what it is like to own your own business, and be a web developer. It was a an amazing experience! […]

Ingress: The coolest game you can't play (yet)

Today, while on vacation, I received an interesting email from Google. I had finally gotten accepted into the Niantic labs ingress closed beta of the game Ingress. I had completely forgotten about the game except for the app that was installed on my phone. I quickly fired up the app and to my pleasant surprise, the game began. Ingress, if you don’t know, is a massive augmented reality game. You go through the game gathering a resource called XM by physically moving from place to place. Tonight, after playing for about 20 minutes, I was pretty exhausted. Granted, I was in the sand, and I had no idea what I was doing, but it was still pretty amazing. Because many of the hotspots are centers of tourism, I see this raising a lot of awareness for local spots in town. I know that before today, I had no interest in going the US post office in San Juan, but now I wouldn’t mind considering there is a giant portal located there. Anyway, read on for more info and a bunch of screenshots. […]

Don't be tricked by Fake Privacy Post

Ok ya’ll. Lets talk. People do a lot of bandwagon jumping without reading first. Lets start by talking about something near and dear to my heart. Facebook. I love Facebook! Facebook is a great medium for sharing ideas, images, and communicating. Unfortunately, people are easily tricked, and quite willing to jump on a bandwagon even if they are not sure what is going on. I urge you to do research before you so blithely repost things. Work around this rule. If someone says you should repost something for your own good, its probably a fake. And if you are not sure, simply copy the post and search google. You will instantly know whether its a good idea to repost or not. Now, lets talk specifically about this new post going around. The text is below (hit read more if you don’t see it): […]

TouchPal Keyboard Review – The keyboard you never knew you needed

Lets face it, the default keyboard on android typically sucks. It can either be clunky, difficult to use, or just hard to navigate. The beauty of Android is that unlike iOs, you are not stuck with it. Well, in my time, I have played with many keyboards, some good, some bad, some downright terrible! I will cover some of those at a later time, but for now, I want to cover a keyboard called TouchPal. It has given me hope for the future, and when I wipe my phone, this is one of the first things I install. It’s hard to put into words just how great this keyboard is. Ok, now that I am done gushing, read on my in-depth review.  […]

How-To be a mommy blogger

I always get really excited when people want to get into blogging. There are many people out there that make a living out of blogging, and honestly, as someone who loves to write, I find it very therapeutic. Well, a friend of mine (a stay at home mom) recently contacted me about maybe starting a blog. She had 3 questions for me. 1. Have you ever been able to make money by blogging? 2. How does ad placement work? In other words, how do you make money from ads and does it go by the number of hits you have on a blog? 3. Also.. what would you recommend for a free(to test the waters first) blog hosting site that has nice design options? Some of the biggest blogs out there are blogs run by stay at home moms, probably because they are at home and have the time to write, and are big because their target audience is also at home and has time to read them. One of my favorite technology journalists started her mommy blog and it has done very well. The key here, more than anything is consistency. You have to stick to a schedule (I have some tools that makes this very easy), whatever that schedule may be. Still interested? Keep reading for my take on these questions. […]

How to view your Facebook page likes

Facebook, as a platform, continues to grow and change. This is evident with their new Timeline interface, and their constantly changing news stream. Unfortunately, they sometimes make things more difficult than necessary. In this particular case, trying to find out who has liked your Facebook page. This used to be a simple matter, but it seems to have gotten harder. Check out the screenshots below on how to view your current likes. […]

Free Vector Green check box with check mark

So the other day, I was looking for a check mark vector graphic, and for the life of me, I could not find any that I liked. I finally found one over at shutterstock, (http://www.shutterstock.com/pic.mhtml?id=60481177), that I really liked, but I didnt want to pay $20 for something so simple! So what did I do? I recreated it myself! Once you get good enough with Illustrator, it’s pretty easy to assemble basic shapes into complex images. So feel free to download the file below, its Royalty free, and I release my version under the Creative Commons license. Hope you enjoy it! […]

Google Apps MSN Delivery Status Notification (Failure) Error

When it comes to email, Google apps has been a Godsend. It enables small companies to run efficient cloud based email systems that are protected and secure. This service is provided by Google for free for up to 10 users, allowing small companies to avoid the high cost of an exchange server entirely. Unfortunately, free is not always free, since a service like this does not come with any technical support. That is where we come in. We recently had a client with an issue with their Google apps account. The account worked fine, but when someone with an MSN, Live, or Hotmail email address would try to contact them, they would get an undeliverable error, its available after the break. […]

Steve Jobs will be remembered

Today, Steve Jobs, ex-CEO of Apple passed away (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011). Steve jobs was responsible for the meteoric rise of apple, from a lagging Computer company, to a company that has its fingers in many levels of technology, starting from the music player business with its iPod, all the way up to its iPad tablet, which has taken over the world by storm. It is a sad day, not just for Apple fan boys, but for everyone who can appreciate technology. Steve Jobs is responsible for the vision that drove apple to where it is now, making almost every decision on his own, and guiding the company to greatness. Read on for more. […]
