Screen Capture technology. How difficult does it really need to be? Well Techsmith apparently wants to make it even easier than a simple press of the Prnt Scrn button on your keyboard. Many of my friends are shocked to find out that by simply pressing the Prnt Scrn button, windows stores a copy of your screen in the windows clipboard. To access the file, simply open paint, and paste. But, what if there was a simpler way to do it? What if with a few clicks, you had a perfectly cropped screen capture? Well read on to see how!Jing is a program that you install on your computer, to easily capture screenshots. How easy is it? Well, a little sun sits on your desktop, just waiting for you to hover over it, like so:
as you can see from the screenshot above, its a little sun that just hangs out there, until you hover over it, then you get the three options above. The first is to capture, be it video or photo. the second gives you access to your history of screenshots. And the last one is your options for the program. 90% of the time, you will be choosing capture from the top.
as you can see above, a grid appears, with the mouse as the center point. You simply click and drag a box to select the area that you want to capture. If you just want a screenshot, then you are pretty much done. If you want video, all you need to do after you create the box, is select the option that appears to shoot video.
That is all there is too it. I currently am using the pro version, that I won from a contest on Downloadsquad which has been nice, but the only additions to the free version, are the ability to shoot the video in more file formats, and additional space on the jing server to upload your video. Since this isnt a big deal for me, it hasn’t made much of a difference, but it is nice to know that the option is there.
My final conclusion is that if you need a screen capture tool, and don’t want to shell out cash for snag-it (their pro offering), than this is the program that you have been looking for.
