If you have been in your google docs account in the past few days, you will see a little window popup, with the message on the right. Google has added video to their ever expanding set of supported files. True, you could upload video files before, but now you can watch them in your browser, without the need of downloading them to your computer first.
The supported file types (with a 1gig size limit) are below:
- WebM files (Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codec)
- .MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files – (h264 and mpeg4 video codecs and AAC audio codec)
- .AVI (many cameras use this format – typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM)
- .MPEGPS (MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio)
- .WMV
- .FLV (Adobe – FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio)
As google continues to support their docs franchise, we should see even more file types natively supported by google, as they try to move people from their local storage on their computers, to their cloud based solution on the Google servers. That along with their big push with ChromeOS, I believe its safe to assume that Google sees a world in the future where small SSD replaces terabytes of data drives, in exchange for Petabytes of cloud based space. I dont know if it will succeed, but it would be nice not to have to worry about my hard drive space.
